What is fire extinguisher & what are different types of fire extinguisher?

Fire extinguisher it is used for the extinguish small type of fire it is also called as portable fire extinguisher.

Parts of the fire extinguisher

1) Carrying handle
2) Pressure gauge
3) Hose pipe
4) Safety pin
5) Discharge nozzle
6) Cylinder

Types of fire extinguisher

A. Water extinguisher : It is used on solid fire such as paper,plastic ,wood,cloths ,etc.

B. Foam extinguisher : It is some time used on liquid fire but commonly used in a metal fire.

C. Co2 extinguisher (carbon dioxide): It is used on electrical as well as solid fire.

D. Dry chemical powder (DCP): It is used on solid fire as well as liquid fire.

Water & foam extinguisher are used for class A fires only. C02 extinguishers are used for class B & C fires only. Dry chemical powder is used for class B & C fires only.

Classification of fire

1) Class A fire: ( solid fire) example :- paper, wood, plastic ,cloths .
Extinguisher : water and DCP extinguisher

2) Class B fire : ( liquid fire ) example :- kerosene, petrol, Diesel ,oil and other liquid fire
Extinguisher :  DCP and Foam extinguisher

3) Class C fire : ( liquefied gaseous) example :Spirit ,LPG cylinder,
Extinguisher :  Foam and DCP extinguisher

4) Class D fire : ( Metal fire) example :- metal like Aluminum, silicon ,iron etc.
Extinguisher :  Foam extinguisher

5) Class E fire : ( Electrical fire ) example:- Electrical fire
Extinguisher :  CO2 extinguisher

6) Class K fire : ( Kitchen fire )
Extinguisher : ABC Dry chemical powder
